The following rules and guidelines must be adhered to for the Greater Vancouver Garden Railway Club. (GVGRC) forum.
This forum is free! However, we do insist that you abide by the rules and policies detailed below. Although the administrators and moderators of the GVGRC Forum will attempt to keep all objectionable messages off this forum, it is impossible for us to review all messages This is a member forum for both technical and non-technical users. Garden railways brings such a diverse crowd to the GVGRC Forums, so everyone needs to understand these guidelines before posting.
There are people here who have never posted on a forum board before and are shy about posting so be polite. If you don’t want to help in answering the basic questions then skip over them. Search before starting a “New Thread”. A lot of questions have already been asked and answered.
Rule #1: You may only post threads related to our hobby.
Rule #2: Be polite to all users. If you discover a post containing insults directed at you or others,
click the “Report Abuse” button.
Rule #3: Users may use HTML tags and images within the body of their message, so long as the usage
of the HTML tag or images does not create an undesirable appearance, interfere with the site's design and functionality, or affect the performance of the Internet browser.
Rule #4: Sarcasm will not be tolerated; this is a forum where we are here to help each other.
Rule #5: Jokes or negative remarks about another person or childish behavior will not be tolerated.
Rule #6: Posts questioning GVGRC polices, forum policies or discussion of internal politics is strictly
forbidden. If you want to gripe, send a private message. Just remember to think before you hit that send button!
Rule #7: Posting links; Members may link to any other site, providing it is information that helps
answer another member's question or is just of general interest to members of that particular forum. Some linking (besides porn and spam, of course) that will not be allowed on our site is when members solicit people to leave our site and join a competing service, when that service is all ready available on the GVGRC or for profit advertising. That's just common sense. In addition members that post links are solely responsible for all content in the link they have posted on our forum.
Rule #8: No posting copyrighted, trademarked or illegal content of any kind.
Rule #9: Creating Noise - posting nonsense to a thread is not desirable. If you don't have something
worthy of being read by others then don't post it.
Rule #10: Everyone is entitled to their opinion and may voice it, but discussions
whose sole goal is to move the club away from the good of all members is not permitted.
Rule #11: Trolling/Baiting- No Posting messages about sensitive subjects to bait users into responding.
Forum Board Etiquette
Keeping Things Organized
It is easier to follow a discussion on a topic if it is not broken up across multiple threads. Keeping all messages within a single thread keeps the discussion organized, and makes following it a breeze. Use the Search feature on the message board to see if a topic has already been posted. Remember, a single reply to a thread will bring the thread back to the top of the message board index for all to see.
Inappropriate Threads or Topics
Off-Topic - Threads that don't have anything to do with the current topic don’t belong.
A proper subject title is very important. If you put a short, non-descriptive subject title, fewer people will read it. Too long of a title gets annoying to the users. Try to sum up the topic of your message in as few words as possible, but still communicate what it is about.
Quoted Material In A Reply
As a courtesy to all it is appreciated when you delete any or all of the unnecessary quoted content in a reply. Keep what is needed so your reply makes sense, but delete the rest.
The Add Image option is meant to be for an image that is relevant to the post, not an advertisement for your favorite store.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion and may voice it on the message boards. Please keep this in mind when responding to messages and show respect for another's opinion. The success of the message board is primarily based on the differences in opinions, which create interesting conversations and debates. You can expect others to disagree with you, but do not take it personally.
Self Promotion is defined as posting an on-topic message merely to advertise or promote another web site and not intended to create a discussion. Users are not permitted to post messages advertising or promoting web sites, unless they can make it a message that is likely to generate a discussion.
Banning of users
Violators to the rules WILL be banned from the GVGRC forum without warning. Forum Moderators may warn or change posts for those who push the grey area. Repeated questionable posts will cause a person to be banned as well. Our recommendation is to use the “Report Abuse” link, and let the Forum Moderators handle the abusive users. Reporting helps the Forum Moderators.
Managing user content
